Dr. Padilla

Hello, I am the founder and medical director at Padilla Family Medicine.
I am originally from Monterrey Mexico and lived there until two years of age when my family moved to the United States so that my father could complete his medical training.  We settled in Houston Texas which is where I was raised and completed my primary education.

I grew up experiencing the joy and fulfillment of providing medical care and the sacred physician-patient relationship at my fathers general practice office.  By the time I was in elementary school I had decided that I wanted to make the art of medicine my life’s work.

I returned to Monterrey Mexico to attend medical school at the University Of Monterrey.  I chose Family Practice as my specialty as I wanted to attend to patients of all ages, not wanting to limit myself to a specific patient type or organ system but to rather specialize in treating the whole person regardless of age as well as the complete family unit.

After completing medical school I was accepted to the Family Practice residency program at the University of Massachusetts in 1983.  After completing my residency in 1986 I joined a medical group practice (Chula Vista Family Medical Group) in 1986, where I practiced for fifteen years.

I opened my own practice in 2001 with the goal of connecting with my patients on a more personal level.  I wanted to develop and promote a relaxed pleasant environment where our patients could feel comfortable and well cared for.

I am married to Ann whom many of you know is our office manager and my best friend. I have been blessed with four children.  Maelesa is my first born and presently an assistant district attorney in Orange County and is married to her long term sweetheart Blake Street.  Malorie is my second daughter.  She is a clinical social worker in Austin Texas and also recently married a wonderful son-in-law Jeff Ely.  My son Tomas who recently graduated with a business degree at SDSU, is my regular surf buddy.  Our little one, Anamaria, is twelve years old in the fifth grade.  She is quite the artist and recently has become obsessed with playing the guitar with her rock band Sour Candy.  She is responsible for stocking the office with prizes for our young patients.

In my free time I enjoy spending time with family and friends, surfing whenever possible and staying fit with yoga, biking or running.

It is a privilege and honor to make that human connection with our patients, developing close relationships so that we can together partner to optimize their health.

Joanne Campbell PA-C

I have worked as a Physician Assistant (PA) in primary care/family medicine since 2011, and have been pleased to work at Padilla Family Medicine since January 2016, after relocating to San Diego from Buffalo NY. I received my bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences and a master’s in Physician Assistant Studies from Daemen College in Amherst, NY.

My career choice was inspired by a desire to integrate my skills and values into my day-to-day work and life. I love to connect with people, build relationships, provide support, and encourage well-being. I often reflect on a quote from my professors at Daemen “Working in medicine you learn something new every day, you are humbled daily, and you are reminded to appreciate life daily.”

I am married to my high school sweetheart and we enjoy life together. We have enjoyed exploring Southern California, whether at the beach, hiking, dining out, or visiting unique neighborhoods. In our free time we love to travel, cook, eat, run, do yoga, and spend time with family and friends.

I love working with the staff and patients at Padilla Family Medicine, a friendly, positive, and patient-centered environment. I look forward to building a relationship with you and taking care of your needs.
